About Bedford Orthodontics
- Dr Magda Barnard: Dr. Magda Barnard graduated from Dalhousie University with a B.Sc. in Chemistry in 1995, and her dental degree in 1999. After working for five years as a general dentist in Dartmouth, she went back to university to study orthodontics. Dr. Barnard graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Master of Science in Orthodontics in 2008 and moved back to the Maritimes where she joined the practice of Dr. Lee Erickson, as a partner. Dr. Barnard has received numerous awards during her academic career, including Dr. Frank Woodbury Memorial Prize, Teledyne Water Pik Canada Prize, JD MacLean Scholarship, Dr. Stanley Bagnall Memorial Prize, Dr. WHH Beckwith Prize, and the Modern Dental Laboratory Prize. Dr. Barnard is very involved in organized dentistry, and has volunteered on various committees for the Nova Scotia Dental Association while in private practice. Dr. Barnard is a published author and currently writes the Expert Advice column for the local magazine, Fine Lifestyles. During her career, Dr. Barnard has taught dental students in the Orthodontics Department both at Dalhousie University and at the University of Manitoba. Dr. Barnard belongs to several orthodontic organizations and associations including the Canadian Association of Orthodontists, the Canadian Dental Association, the American Association of Orthodontists, the Northeastern Society of Orthodontics, and the Halifax County Dental Society.
- Dr Lee Erickson: Dr. Erickson graduated from Dalhousie University in 1977 with his B.S. in microbiology and with his dental degree in 1981. After working for one year as a dentist in Dartmouth, he went back to university to study orthodontics. He graduated in 1984 from the University of Western Ontario with his Masters of Clinical Dentistry and moved back to the Maritimes, where he set up practices in Dartmouth and Bedford. As well, Dr. Erickson is an assistant professor at Dalhousie University, where he has been teaching dental students for over 25 years. Dr. Erickson is keenly involved in organized dentistry. He is past president of the Nova Scotia Dental Society, the Atlantic Orthodontic Association, the Northeastern Society of Orthodontists and was the youngest president of the Canadian Association of Orthodontists. Dr. Erickson also sits on the Board of Directors of the Provincial Dental Board of Nova Scotia.
