Ear
Surgery/Otoplasty
This procedure sets
prominent ears back closer to the head, or reduces the size of large ears,
most often done on children between the ages of 4 and 14 years.
Incisions are made
around the ear, excess cartilage is removed, and the remainder of the
cartilage reshaped to achieve the desired contour.
A bandage will remain
over the ear for about one week. Scars usually lie in the ears's natural
creases. Post-operative swelling after removal of the bandage will disappear
within a few days.
The procedure takes
from 1 - 2 hours and is performed under local or general anaesthetic.
