Dermabrasion
The difference between
a chemical peel and dermabrasion is the method used.
Dermabrasion involves
the surgeon utilizing a high speed rotating brush to remove the top layer
of skin. The size and depth of the scars as well as the degree of wrinkling
determine the appropriate level of skin that will be surgically sloughed.
Anaesthetic options
include:
- local anaesthesia,
combined with a sedative (allows the patient to remain awake but relaxed)
- a numbing spray,
such a freon, may be used along with or instead of local anesthesia
or general anaesthesia.
The procedure takes
form a few minutes to over an hour depending on the area of the skin to
be worked on.
